Authors Courtney and Brit Dunlop have 13+ years of beauty experience, but it wasn’t that long ago that they too were trying to get their first jobs in the industry. With no connections, no guidance, or any plans to follow, they moved from Missouri to New York City and worked their way up from the bottom. In Break Into Beauty, the sisters share their own tried-and-true advice for landing a job (it worked for them!), and draw from their extensive network of beauty business insiders to find out exactly what employers want, and, most importantly, how you can become what they’re looking for.
Courtney’s love for beauty runs deep, starting first with a B.S. in Cosmetics & Fragrance Marketing from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Her experience includes stints as beauty editor for both Jane and Marie Claire magazines, and you can find her work in magazines such as Allure, Cosmopolitan, InStyle, Self, and Real Simple. She’s also had the privilege to work on editorial strategy, copy, marketing, and trend reports for top beauty companies including Aveda, Redken, Clinique, and L’Oréal Professionnel. Courtney lives in the East Village of New York City.
Brit’s passion for the beauty industry blossomed at a young age with a bedroom wallpapered in fashion magazine tear sheets. Eventually, she pursued her interests by graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City with a B.S. in Cosmetics & Fragrance Marketing. Now, as a successful commercial print and fitting model, Brit strengthens her cutting edge knowledge of beauty industry trends through her daily interaction with designers. She also consults with various beauty industry powerhouses, often assisting with product marketing and development. These many experiences spill over into Brit’s fashion blog which includes beauty tricks of the trade. Brit currently resides in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood.
